At the mercy of the guitar store or your best buddy? BYO strings, or watch a demo! Learn how to re-string your steel string guitar (and save $$) with Chuck.

11:00 am: Beginner Family Jam at the FAMILY STAGE

Led by LA local fiddle teachers Molly White and Natalie Brejcha.

Open to all ages, this slow paced, family oriented jam is for those who have a melody instrument like fiddle and want to learn and play some classic tunes as well as chord players who know how to play basic ADEGC chords on their instruments.

This beginner jam will have printed music available with chord charts, words and melodies provided.

11:00 am: 3 Chords and a Capo: Song Circle at Songmakers
Wow your friends with 3-chord guitar songs! Use a capo to broaden your range. Learn easy play- and sing-along songs with Janice, then practice your skills in a friendly song circle. Everyone is welcome to join in the circle, even if you already have a few chords under your belt. You’ll even walk away with a handy reference card!

 

11:30 am: Intro to Musical Saw - at Instrument Petting Zoo

Hosted by Frank Feldstein who has taught musical saw for the past 25 years

with Tony Ramirez Retired Teacher (Musical Saw Tech Support.)

This is a hands on course no experience necessary.  All ages. Saws provided.  

You will learn:

*Solo demo

*Saw Plate harmonics

*The S curve

*Saw Playing posture

*Hammer Technique

*Bowing Technique

*Vibrato

*Playing a Scale

*Playing a simple song

12:00 pm: Two Runner - Old Time Fiddle at SWBA

Learn an original oldtime fiddle tune with Emilie Rose, fiddle player for Two Runner. This will be a fiddle heavy workshop but everyone and all levels are welcome. We will be experimenting with cross tuning to GDGD to learn this pretty simple melody! 

 

1:00 pm: DJ Reed - Slow Jam  at SWBA

"Nothing over 80 BPM jam".  Come on by and hang out with friends… The Nothing over 80 beats a minute jam is a come as you are casual hoe down.  Classic songs and fiddle tunes.  Flip chart with chords.   Hosted by southwest Bluegrass Association.   A Topanga favorite led by DJ Reed and the Main Street Jam Band.   Guaranteed fun and smiles!  

1:00 pm: Themed Song Circle: 50's, 60's, 70's at Songmakers

You’re on! We’re on! Play, lead, or request familiar sing-along and play- along pop songs from the 50s through the 70s. Group singing is our thing. Buddy Holly, Leslie Gore, Beatles–you name it!

2:00 pm: Beginning Ukulele Lesson & Play Along at Songmakers

Come for a quick ukelele lesson, stay to strum, jam and rock out with us. Learn how to play (uke) well with others. Already know some uke tunes? Share with us in this uke-centric song circle. All levels welcome, but simple songs are greatly appreciated to include new players!

2:30 pm: Saw Players Workshop at Instrument Petting Zoo

Leave it all on the dance floor ! Cumbia is a rhythm born in Colombia that spread to the Americas, and around the world. Learn the basics with MariaChingona and you'll be ready for her Main Stage performance immediately following the workshop.

3:00 pm: Themed Song Circle: Folk, Rock, and Folk- Rock at Songmakers

This your chance to lead or request folk, rock, and folk-rock songs from all eras. Songmakers thrive on making music together and getting everyone involved. Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Simon & Garfunkel, CCR, CCN, Eagles, The Dead South, Rhiannon Giddens. What can you bring?

4:00: pm Honey Buckets - Single Mic Workshop at CBA

Honey Buckets single-mic performance workshop is an instructional and demonstrative performance covering the techniques, benefits, challenges and reasons to use a single microphone.  Topics include harmony techniques, instrumental dynamics, moving around the mic - what we call "The Dance", gear requirements and more!  The presentation is both conversational and musical including a Q&A portion.

5:00 pm: How to tear down a site at Songmakers

Share the joy of working together to break down our site, and leave our location "better than we found it." All hands welcome! High fives and gratitude included.
